Co-curated by Leah Ring and Holland Denvir, Object Permanence is an exhibition series that was created with the intent of highlighting Los Angeles design talent. Each iteration of Object Permanence revolves around individual interpretations of a specific prompt, keeping the brief loose and allowing participants the freedom to express their vision and highlight their particular expertise in a broad range of materials.

The event was founded as a means to bridge the gap between LA's various creative industries, offering a space to exchange ideas, build connections, broaden communities, and foster open dialogue across zip codes. We seek to offer a voice to up-and-coming designers by highlighting their work alongside that of more well established studios.

After three successful exhibitions in Los Angeles, Object Permanence expanded to a new geographic territory with Edition 4, hosted in New York at the 1stdibs gallery. Our goal is to provide a platform for designers to share their work and build community, wherever that may be.

When Edition 5 of Object Permanence was postponed due to the global health pandemic, founders Ring and Holland Denvir organized a charity auction featuring work by Object Permanence Alumni to raise money for the LA Food Bank. The pair have since revised their mission for Object Permanence to not only be driven by the goal of fostering community within the design industry, but also to help designers use their talents to give back to their communities through meaningful donations to organizations promoting community wellness and creativity. Through the sale of the objects exhibited and the generosity of participating artists, Object Permanence has donated over $10,500 to organizations including LA Food Bank, Black Art Futures Fund, Common Cause and Downtown Women’s Center.
